When TV first started, I loved Muffin the Mule. I was bought a large, metal, puppet of Muffin for a birthday and it was played with until it was falling apart. On seeing a few episodes recently I realized how witty and fun Annette Mills was, with Muffin cavorting on her piano while she played and sang the songs. I didn't know at the time, but Muffin was created in my birth year and was waiting there for me to discover him in 1952.
Recently seeing for the first time the modern version (animation), I think Muffin has lost his charm (and he never spoke before - as Sooty never spoke). I know one can never recapture the great charm of Annette Mills, but Muffin being a puppet that interacted with his human presenter, is now completely lost. Maybe I'm just yearning for my childhood when less was definitely more.

More often that not, P, right you are! It seems to me that in too many cases, in too many genres, excessiveness has taken over. Style over substance, someone once said. Motion Pictures, Music, Television, Newspapers, Commercials (all kinds), nearly all of our entertainment forms have been affected, unfortunately. Bring back the 50' & 60's I say! ;D
