As there is no specific place for introductions....
I grew up listening to music, although it was obviously my parents taste. One of my father's friends was the band leader, Billy Cotton, who was a regular visitor to our house. (Before the war, Billy Cotton had been a racing driver, usually driving Bentleys, and my father used to race motorbikes.) As Billy Cotton always gave me half-a-crown, I liked him! Later, he introduced my parents to Winifred Atwell, the pianist who I met many times.
With the advent of skiffle I used to visit many of the London clubs, and in those days, one could meet and chat with the artists. Hence I met Chas Mc. Devitt (who, with Nancy Whiskey had a hit with Freight Train), Emile Ford (& the Checkmates) and many others. Later, I met the Who, when they used to play at the Railway Hotel Harrow. I also went to the original Cavern Club to see the Beatles, who werent there that nght.
However, the highlight for me was seeing Buddy Holly when he came to London.
By coincidence an American pal went to school with Buddy, and later this year I am goign to stay with him. He has recently moved back to Lubbock, so I am promised a guided tour of the Buddy Holly memorial centre, and the general area, thus fulfilling a long desired wish. As I am also visiting a friend who lives in Nashville, it should, certainly be an interesting trip.
As for my musical tastes, "various" covers it. I used to enjoy concerts and shows, but the last one I went to was Meatloaf, (when I was probably the oldest person there) but dont bother anymore.
